Bring joy to our children - Let our children free

Let a hundred flowers bloom

Think Centre will plant creative displays of flowers at the Hong Lim Green, to celebrate International Childrens Day, on Saturday, 2nd October 2004 from 10 am to 4.30 pm.

Free gifts for children and "planting flowers"

Think Centre will provide flowers to plant the various colour of joy and freedom at the Speakers Corner. The public, especially, students, parents and children, are invited to participate in the "planting of flowers."

We have invited Ministers and MPs to come to the Hong Lim Green to "plant" flowers of joy and throw "fear" away! This will strengthen the harmony and build "trust" among the people.

Think Centre has encourage Ministers and MPs to write simple joyful and colourful messages for the children. They are welcome to send their messages to Think Centre or to the media.

Think Centre also invite members of the PA, Schools and Civil Society groups and the Police to come and plant flowers of joy and throw "fear" away! Make it a Carnival of Joy and Freedom for the children of Singapore!

Moreover, Think Centre will install among the clourful flowers toy toddlers with strings tied, holding flowers in one hand and a bird on his head.

The bird represents the mind. Children should be allowed to see their ideas and dreams take flight. In line with an open society.

Flowers in hand represent movement. Physically and intellectually disabled children should have equal opportunities and empowered to move beyond their station in life.

Strings represent societal encumbrances which hinders the development of children. It can be unreasonable parental pressures, lack of opportunities, societal expectations etc.

BRING JOY TO THE CHILDREN - COLOUR THE Hong Lim GREEN!

Give our children a chance to set their foot print of joy and freedom!

Remove the chains of homework - Let the children play!

Let them colour the Speakers' Corner with colours of joy!

Bring the children to the Hong Lim Green!

Let the Children free!

In 1995, Singapore ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Children. Both the government and civil society organisation have an obligation to promote this.

It is fifty years since the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed Universal Children's Day in 1954, as a time to promote friendship and understanding among children. Children's Day is about celebrating children, an opportunity for us to give time to our children and to have fun together.

What are you going to do on Children's Day?

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long
"The Think Centre says they want to plant 100 flowers there - let a hundred flowers bloom.
Well, I think go ahead."

Come 'Plant Flowers"
