Save JBJ Political Rally
01 April 2001

When SM Lee Kuan Yew was asked recently whether he would step down soon, he pointedly asked the reporter in return, "What would I do?" The same can be said of JBJ. What will he do if he is made a bankrupt and be completely out of the fray of the next elections. Like how SM Lee is an icon of Singapore politics, so is JBJ. Of course, for the establishment, he is the anti-hero and hence needs to be challenged.

Think Centre kicks off Leafleting Campaign
(Think Centre)

24 April 2001
Think Centre, the organisers of the "Save JBJ" Rally, appeared at the City Hall MRT Station's side entrance at 6.30 pm in a show of symbolic strength, jointly with members of the Open Singapore Centre.

For the next hour or so, members of the team, whom most had just knocked off from a day's work, rigorously distributed leaflets containing information on this Saturday's "Save JBJ" Rally, for the purpose of acquiring some publicity and boost spectator turnout.

Among them was Deputy Executive Director Sinapan Samydorai, who had just returned from a conference in Geneva. Reporters from The Straits Times and one cameraman from the soon-to-be-launched SPH television also dropped in for locality coverage.

J B Jeyaretnam, who was feeling unwell, took a deserved rest at Think Centre's office in Excelsior Shopping Centre. Shortly later, he was rejoined by the group for a short brainstorming session, accompanied by soft drinks, curry puffs and chocolate which Samydorai had brought back from Geneva.

The team will visit several other prominent places this week to continue their leaflet-distribution.
