Govt should be more understanding of Muslim community
(Think Centre)

15 January 2001 by Diana
Dearest Brothers & Sisters in Islam Dearest Fellow Singaporeans... Baby Deen Liong Wei Yang... che ke ming zhi xi wo jui kei chi ke xiao hai zhi. Ta xi wo de lau pan de er zhe. Baby Deen Liong Wei Yang... this is the name I give to this child. He is my Boss' son.
In my office... I work with people of differenct races and religions. We did all the best we can to achieve trust... respect & so fortunately religious harmony.

In my office... my colleagues never feel threatened or make a HUGE DEAL out of the additional cloth on my head... HIJAB. At first... out of curiousity... they asked about it... but after I gave them the explanation... they understand...

In my office... I'm given the air-con stock room to do my daily prayers. Sometimes as normal human being... I forgot or felt lazy to do my prayers...

They will say, "Diana ni mei you cui pray ah... yi tian zhong ler..." (They will say, "Diana you don't pray ah... one o'clock already...")

In my entire life... hardly any Muslims Friends in my school will remind me of my prayers... but my beloved colleagues... they do.

When my Boss's wife gave birth... he asked me to give his son a name... that can sound like English... Malay... starts with letter "D" because last year was the Year of Dragon in the Chinese Calender.

I said... Donavan... Danial... David... He said it does not sound Malay.

Then I remembered my name... Nurdiana which means Light of Religion. So I give the baby same meaning as my name DEEN... Religion.

I said "Now... It sounds like English (Dean) & the spelling (Deen) in Arab or Malay"

So he took that name... Deen Liong Wei Yang.

Deen = Religion Wei = "Wei Ta" de "Wei" (Noble) Yang = "Tai Yang" de "Yang" (Sun)

I just don't understand... why the Government can't understand the needs of the Muslim Community. We just want to be able to do our religious duties... & live happily with the other races and religious group.

We, Singaporeans have worked so hard to live and achieve that kind of harmony... peace... but they have to spoil everything for us...

I thought we should be Nationally Integrated and Happily Together. Why let us harbour dissatisfactions...? Why can't we have FREEDOM in practising our religious duties.

Only God (Allah) knows how much I love my fellow Brothers and Sisters in Islam & my fellow Singaporean (they being God (Allah)'s Creations too).

Tau xian zhai wo hai xi pu ming pai wei xi mo the Government hai zhai pa... Pa xi mo...? Wei xi mo TV Presenters, News Readers, Nurses, Air Stewardess... Students (In Secular Schools) pu ke yi quan HIJAB (TUDUNG)? Wei xi mo qiang tui wo men Muslim ren?

Ni ke yi kei wo yi ke hau de li yo ma? Can you give me one good reason?

P.S. Baby Deen... ah... tang ni tang ta de xi ho pu yau qiang tui wo... hor.. (Baby Deen... when you grow up... don't treat me like that...okay)

Wo qiang teng ni... wo xi wang... ni pu hui wang qi wo... (I adore you... my hope is... you will not forget me...)

Yours Truly
